Simulation in the Science of Complex Systems

Lecture 1
Prof. Jeff Johnson

Abstract

This course is intended to give you an overview of the way computer simulation is used in the science of complex systems. It can be studied by reading the computer screen, or you can print PDF versions of the lessons that you may find more convenient for reading. Since the course requires you to study material on other linked web sites, you may find the simultaneous use of a printed version and the on-screen version optimal.

The aim of this course is to give you an understanding of the role that computer simulation plays in the science of complex systems. The specific objectives of the course are for you:

to interact with a variety of computer simulations
to be able define and distinguish simulation architectures
to work with simulations where point prediction is or is not meaningful
to see the place of simulation in the formulation and testing of scientific theory
to ...
